Sea cumber is one of the rare creatures in the world that have been living for 600 million years ,its living history is earlier than fishes .Afterwards ,dinosaur was eliminated by nature ,but the weak sea cucumber survived ,for this reason it is reputed as the “living fossil of the earth ”.
In the there kingdom (220-280 A .D) period ,people baked sea cucumbers to eat .In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A .D),sea cucumber was listed in the menu of the palace ,then it became a dish of course families like Lu , it was reputed among “8 precious sea food ”along with shark fin and abalong etc .
Both the north and south coast of our country are rich in sea cucumber .As to the north ,with the decrease of water temperature ,the growth of sea cucumber will slow down but the quality is better ,and it is more precious .Dalian sea cucumber is among one of the best sea cucumber ,which is reputed as the “Champion among Sea Cucumbers ”.
In The Compendium of Materia Medica ,the traditional Chinese medicine master Li Shizhen recorded articles about sea cucumber .In the Wanli Period of Ming Dynasty ,Xie zhaozhe wrote in Wuzazu (Sea Cucumber ) “in east Liaonig coast (Dalian sea area today ) is mild and nutritious ……it is as good as ginseng ,thus we name it sea cucumber ”,which is the origin of the name of sea cucumber in Chinese .In New Compilation of Materia Medica of Qing Dynasty .Wu Yiluo wrote : “sea cucumber in Liao Sea (Dalian sea area today ) is excellent ,those with stabs are apostichopus japonicus ”, “it does well to kidneys ,and is good to man health ”,It is recorded in Mirror of the Hundred Herbs that : “For nutrition and strength ,we can use those in Liao Sea ,it can also be used as cream ”.
